About Me
For me, the process of socially engaged art begins with mapping a place, making connections, conducting observations and research, and responding to those discoveries through artistic intervention. This final stage is always collaborative, developed together with the communities and relationships formed throughout the process. Check out my projects to see how I work.
Recently, I have been exploring the idea of healthy distractions. I want to create spaces where people can, for a few hours, be elsewhere. Lost in a hobby, connecting with others and growing collectively while reconnecting with imagination or play.
PROJECTS
An ongoing participatory 8×8cm archive of proverbs gathered from strangers across cultures. Each proverb is paired with a handmade collage, turning a simple question (“Do you know a proverb?”) into an exchange of memory, humour, advice, and cultural knowledge.
After noticing that boys occupied the sports court at Darna's children's house we invited children to sketch drawings of girls in sport which we transformed into a collective composition. The group then voted on their favorite design, before painting the mural together. Check out the video to see the process.
Visitors to a museum attempting to address Dutch colonial history had little opportunity to publicly share or exchange their perspectives. In response, the project invited museum-goers to capture their observations, thoughts, and reactions in the form of a haiku. The collected poems were assembled into a handmade book as an alternative space for reflection.
